when remakes are just an "okay" ideal.

i reluctantly rented dawn of the dead 2004 today, not knowing if or how a remake could do justice to the original movie. turns out that they did just enough different to give the movie its own two legs to stand on. the premise is generally the same, taking up residence in a mall while trying to outlast the zombies. the acting was okay, but ving rames has one delivery and one delivery only as far as monologue goes. i kept waiting for travolta and bruce willis to turn up.

one bright spot in the movie was the acting of sarah polley, who is rather lovely and apparently a canadian icon as far as cinema goes. in an odd side note, her teeth are actually cooler than jewel's.

that is a good thing.

the dvd itself is produced very well, with a good assortment of extras to choose from.

i guess it really depends on wether you can actually accept the fact that someone tried to give a new twist to an already perfect movie. doesn't hurt to give it a try.
